Painkiller is not a medicine

How many of us made a choice? We all made our choices. We have choose to go to school in order to stay home or the vice verse; we choose to go to work, to take a nap, to take a cup of tea. We have made thousands of choice everyday whether we made it intentionally or not. We are products of our choice not our circumstances.  I do remember, while I was a fresh year student at university, I made my choice not to transfer to Architecture which was my first choice before I start Information Science; I made my choice not to apply for ground technician at airlines. I made my choice to continue with my study. I know either of the choice would make me different from what I am today, how I think and so on. Do not choose something because someone you love chose it or the majority chooses it.

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” J.K. Rowling

When life is cool it is easy to take time and decide what you should do. But, when life s full of ups and downs, when you are upset, when you face trouble, when you are in problem, when you miss someone you care for, when you are in dilemma, believe me the choice you made in such conditions are tough and the one who have a potential to change your life, make a turn, paint a mark. So, I am writing you to take care what you choose in the hard time.  I like what Bob Riley said “Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed.”

Hard times are not welcomed almost for all of us. Being weak, feeling sorry and so on are not welcomed. Imagine how could you taste happiness if you had never felt sorry? How could you be strong if you have never been weak? Anyways, it is not point I want to raise. The point is “do not make a decision or a choice that can only give you relief for the moment”. There is a quote which says “If you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour.  If you teach him to catch a fish he will not hungry for a lifetime” So, the choice is still yours take the fish or learn how to catch a fish and solve your problem for the life time.

Many of us have been taking painkillers while there is a real treatment or in other saying, many of us choose to take painkiller instead of the real treatment. Perhaps, there is short term solution and long term solution. Like, the physicians give a real medicine and a painkiller. They will tell you to take the painkiller only when you feel pain. Imagine what if the physician gives you only a painkiller not the real treatment?

For my fellow brothers and sisters who are in this situation, “difficulties strengthen the mind as labor does the body”. Thus, God is not putting you on trial or testing you; God is strengthening you, empowering you and preparing you for something special.  Be wise do not allow the difficulties to stay with you for a long time by giving a solution for a day; chose a solution that permanently up come difficulties.

Take care of what you chose in your life’s ups and downs. Do not choose something for the only reason that it would relief you for a moment. Remember “Do not take only Painkillers”

El-shalom

I am not born by the will of men, God have created and sent me with mission. I am here to accomplish my mission. I am serving my church (Mekane Eyesus) in youth leadership and literature. I have completed my first degree in Addis Ababa University and also in Mekane Yesus Seminary. I use every opportunity to empower and motivate Christian youths to dream big and to bring solution for this messy world, to be peacemaker.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”  Proverbs 9:10
